Prevent unauthorized access to specific pages by implementing page passwords. Password protection allows you to keep some content public while restricting access to selected visitors.

Password-protected pages display a lock symbol in the page menu. All visitors use the same password, as individual passwords aren't available.

Key Password Guidelines:

  • Maximum 30 characters, case-sensitive
  • Don't use your Squarespace account password
  • Editors with view permissions need the password
  • Password entry appears as dots (•••••)
  • Page views only count after password entry

Important Notes:

  • Sessions expire after 4 hours
  • No manual logout option
  • Password protects all collection content
  • Search engines can't access protected pages
  • Protected pages eventually disappear from search results

Collection Pages Protection:

  • Applies to blogs, events, portfolio, and shop pages
  • Protects all individual collection items
  • Summary blocks can display items, but require password for full access

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Check site-wide password settings if issues persist
  • Disable password managers when editing
  • Use plain text when copying passwords
  • Type passwords manually to avoid formatting issues

Note: Page passwords aren't available on members-only sites. For enterprise users, Single Sign-On is available as an alternative access method.
