DNS records are required to correctly link an external domain to your Squarespace site. Here are the essential records you need to add to your domain provider's DNS settings.

Required CNAME Records

  1. Validation CNAME:
  • Host Name: [Your unique verification code]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. www CNAME:
  • Host Name: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

Required A Records

You need four A Records pointing to Squarespace's IP addresses. If your provider only allows one A Record, use the first one:

  • Host Name: @
  • Type: A Record
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

Common Issues and Solutions

  1. Can't find DNS settings:
  • Check if you have full DNS access
  • Consult your provider's documentation
  • Contact your provider's support
  1. DNS errors:
  • "Record not found" messages are normal initially
  • Allow up to 72 hours for DNS propagation
  • Use the DNS record checker in the Domains panel to identify specific issues

Important Notes

  • DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate
  • Consider transferring your domain to Squarespace instead of linking it
  • Each domain provider has a different interface for managing DNS records
  • Always verify records are entered exactly as shown

For ongoing issues, consult your domain provider or check Squarespace's troubleshooting guide.
