A TXT record can verify domain ownership when CNAME records don't work or aren't supported by your domain provider. Follow these steps to verify your domain using a TXT record:

Open DNS Settings

  1. Log into your domain provider account
  2. Locate DNS settings (may be called Zone File Settings or DNS Manager)

Add TXT Record

  1. In Squarespace:
    • Go to domains dashboard
    • Click your domain
    • Select DNS
    • Copy the unique code below the Host column

  1. In your domain provider's DNS settings:
    • Create a new TXT Record
    • Host/Alias: Enter @ or leave blank
    • Type: Select TXT or TXT Record
    • Points to: Paste the unique code from Squarespace
    • Save changes

Verify Setup

  1. Return to Squarespace DNS Settings
  2. Click Refresh below records
  3. Check Current Data column for green Correct label
  4. Allow up to 72 hours for changes to process

Use this method if:

  • CNAME record verification failed
  • Your provider doesn't support CNAME records
  • You can't modify CNAME records
  • You're connecting a subdomain

Common troubleshooting:

  • Verify all values are entered correctly
  • Ensure there are no extra spaces in the unique code
  • Wait the full 72 hours before trying alternative methods
