How to Forward a Squarespace Domain to Another Website or URL

Domain forwarding is a way to redirect visitors from one domain to another URL. This guide explains how to set up domain forwarding in Squarespace.

Before You Begin:

  • Only active domains registered with Squarespace can use this feature
  • Domain forwarding can take up to 72 hours to update
  • Built-in Squarespace domains cannot be forwarded

Types of Domain Forwarding:

  1. Root domain forwarding
  2. Subdomain forwarding
  3. Specific page forwarding

How to Forward to a Non-Squarespace Site:

  1. Open domains dashboard
  2. Click the domain to edit
  3. Click Website
  4. Under Domain Forwarding Rules, click Add rule
  5. Enter @ in Forward from field
  6. Enter destination URL in Forward to field
  7. Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
  8. Keep SSL On (recommended)
  9. Select path forwarding option
  10. Click Save

How to Forward a Subdomain:

  1. Access domains dashboard
  2. Select domain to edit
  3. Click Website
  4. Click Add rule under Domain Forwarding Rules
  5. Enter subdomain name in Forward from field
  6. Enter full destination URL in Forward to field
  7. Configure redirect settings
  8. Click Save

Path Forwarding Options:

  • Maintain paths: Keeps original URL structure
  • Remove paths: Redirects all URLs to new address

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Clear browser cache if forwarding isn't working
  • Check for URL typos
  • Ensure no conflicting DNS records
  • Verify proper SSL configuration

To Remove Forwarding:

  1. Open domains dashboard
  2. Select domain
  3. Click Website
  4. Delete forwarding rule using trash can icon

For Custom Nameservers:

  1. Add required DNS records
  2. Configure CNAME and A records
  3. Remove existing conflicting records
  4. Follow standard forwarding steps

Note: DNS record changes may require contacting your nameserver provider for assistance.
