Domain Types and Eligibility

.com.au domains are specifically for registered Australian businesses and organizations, while .au domains can be used by both businesses and individuals with an Australian address.

Registration Requirements

Entity Information:

  • Entity name must match ABN or ACN documents
  • Valid Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • Entity type selection (Company, Partnership, Sole trader, etc.)

Additional Requirements:

  • Australian address is mandatory
  • Business/organization documentation
  • Trademark information (if applicable)

Important Features

Payment and Expiration:

  • 30-day grace period after expiration
  • No refunds available
  • No 5-day cancellation grace period

Domain Management:

  • Cannot transfer .au or .com.au domains to Squarespace
  • Can transfer away from Squarespace anytime (no 60-day lock)
  • Whois privacy not available

Updating Domain Information:

  1. Download owner forms
  2. Complete required documentation
  3. Submit through customer support
  4. New registration year begins upon changes
  5. Previous registration time is forfeited
