Managing Multiple Domains: A Complete Guide to Domain Setup and Administration
Domain Management Guide
Using multiple domains strategically can enhance your online presence and marketing efforts. Here's everything you need to know about managing multiple domains effectively.
Understanding Domains vs. Sites
Think of your site as a house and your domain as its street address. While every site needs at least one domain, you can have multiple domains pointing to the same site or domains without an active site (like a P.O. Box).

Managing Your Domains
Access all your domains through the Domains dashboard, where you can:
- View all connected domains
- Check domain connections to sites
- Monitor parked domains
- Manage domain groups sharing billing information
Benefits of Multiple Domains
Multiple domains offer several advantages:
- Capture common misspellings
- Prevent competitor domain acquisition
- Increase visitor accessibility
- Protect your brand identity
Example: If you own "mysite.com," consider also registering:
- my-site.com
- mysite.net
- my-site.net
SEO Considerations
Multiple domains won't harm your search rankings. Squarespace automatically redirects additional domains to your primary domain, preventing duplicate content penalties.
Billing Management
To manage domain billing:
- Open Domains dashboard
- Select target domain
- Click Billing in sidebar
- Update billing address or card as needed
Note: Billing changes affect all domains in the same group.
Adding Domains
Add domains through three methods:
- Register a Squarespace domain
- Transfer existing domain to Squarespace
- Connect third-party domain
Domain Parking
If you're not ready to create a site, you can:
- Register a domain through Squarespace
- Park it on a placeholder page
- Transfer third-party domains to parked status
Domain Management Options
For existing domains, you can:
- Move to another Squarespace site
- Redirect to different sites
- Transfer to new providers
- Cancel or disconnect as needed
Remember: Each domain has its own billing cycle, and canceling site service doesn't automatically cancel domain registrations.
