Transfer site ownership by following these steps to designate a new site owner while maintaining proper administrative control and permissions.

Before Transferring Ownership:

  • Only the current site owner can transfer ownership
  • The new owner must be an existing site creator
  • Ownership transfer affects connected subscriptions (Google Workspace, Domains, Acuity Scheduling)
  • Billing information remains unchanged after transfer

Transfer Process:

  1. Invite the future owner as a site creator (if not already done)
  2. Ensure they accept the invitation
  3. Access Permissions and Ownership panel
  4. Click current owner's name under "Owner"
  5. Select "Transfer Ownership"
  6. Authenticate your account
  7. Choose new owner from dropdown menu
  8. Click Continue and Confirm

Important Actions for New Site Owner:

  • Update billing information
  • Review domain contact information
  • Manage previous owner's permissions (they retain administrative privileges)
  • Verify Squarespace Payments connection
  • Set up new site features and content as needed

Special Cases:

  • Parked Domains: Transfer to trial site first
  • Acuity Subscriptions: Follow separate process if not website-associated
  • Deceased Owner's Site: Estate executors can request access

Regular site owners cannot be removed by other creators, and only one owner can exist per site. The owner's email may be used for authentication purposes.

For connected Squarespace Domains, billing and permissions remain separate from the website settings.

The previous owner can remove themselves as a creator, or the new owner can modify their permissions or remove them entirely.

Remember to verify all connected services and update necessary contact information after the transfer is complete.
