Name server registration through glue records allows you to host domains on your own servers by registering IP addresses with your TLD registry. This is useful when hosting on platforms like Cloudflare instead of your domain provider's servers.

Prerequisites:

  • Own server infrastructure
  • Server administration knowledge
  • Server hostname and IP address details

Adding Glue Records:

  1. Gather your server's hostname and IP address
  2. Access domain control panel
  3. Navigate to DNS > Name Server Registration
  4. Click "Add Host Record"
  5. Enter hostname and IP address
  6. Save changes (allow 24-72 hours for propagation)

Deleting Glue Records:

Important: Before deletion, ensure name servers point to another destination to prevent service interruption.

Steps:

  1. Access domain control panel
  2. Navigate to DNS > Domain Name Servers
  3. Select Name Server Registration
  4. Click trash icon next to host record
  5. Save changes (allow 24-72 hours for propagation)

Warning: Deleting glue records while in use can cause website downtime for up to 72 hours.

Important Considerations:

  • Changes take 24-72 hours to propagate
  • Active glue records cannot be deleted
  • Website availability may be affected during changes
  • Keep server information readily available
  • Verify all details before making changes

Always backup your current DNS configuration before making changes to prevent unexpected service disruptions.
