Adding custom DNS records helps connect your site to third-party tools like Google Site Verification or Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Here's how to manage DNS records for your domain.

Requirements:

  • Squarespace-managed domain OR
  • Third-party domain connected via Nameserver Connect

Note: If using DNS Connect, edit DNS settings through your domain provider instead.

Opening DNS Settings:

  1. Navigate to domains dashboard
  2. Select the domain name
  3. Click DNS Settings

Common DNS Record Types:

  • A Records (IPv4 addresses)
  • AAAA Records (IPv6 addresses)
  • CNAME Records (domain aliases)
  • MX Records (email routing)
  • TXT Records (verification/authentication)
  • SRV Records (service location)
  • DKIM/SPF Records (email authentication)
  • DMARC Records (email security)

Adding Custom TTL Values:

  • Default: 4-hour TTL
  • Custom values in seconds (max: 2147483648)
  • Select from preset options or enter custom value

Deleting DNS Records:

  1. Open domains dashboard
  2. Select domain name
  3. Click DNS → DNS Settings
  4. Scroll to Custom Records
  5. Hover over record
  6. Click red trash can icon
  7. Click Save

Important Notes:

  • Changes take 24-72 hours to update
  • Review records carefully before deletion
  • Keep essential records for domain functionality
  • Back up important settings before making changes

Common Uses:

  • Domain forwarding
  • Third-party email setup
