How to Add Disqus Comments to Your Squarespace Site: A Step-by-Step Guide
Disqus replaces Squarespace's default comment system, offering enhanced features like threaded conversations and image comments. Here's how to set it up:
Create Your Disqus Shortname:
- Log in to Disqus
- Click "Add Disqus to Site"
- Click "Get Started"
- Select "I want to install Disqus on my site"
- Enter your website name and category
- Click "Create Site"
- Select a plan
- Choose "Squarespace"
- Copy your Disqus shortname
Set Up Disqus on Squarespace:
- Open Blog Preferences
- Enter your Disqus shortname
- Click Save
- Go to Comment Settings
- Enable comments globally
Important Notes:
- Comments are URL-specific
- Add your secure (https) domain to Disqus as trusted
- Visitors need a Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, or Google account to comment
- Previous Squarespace comments won't transfer to Disqus
Troubleshooting:
- If comments don't appear, verify:
- You created a Website account (not User account)
- Your shortname is correctly added
- Comments are enabled on individual posts
- You're using the correct URL (custom domain vs. Squarespace URL)
- Ajax loading isn't interfering with display
For customization options and advanced features, refer to Disqus documentation. Contact Disqus support for platform-specific issues.
Remember: Comments will only be visible to visitors using the same URL you registered with Disqus. Use a consistent URL structure for all visitors to ensure comment visibility.
