DNS records play a vital role in connecting third-party domains to your Squarespace site. Here are the essential records you need to add in your domain provider's DNS settings:

CNAME Records (Required: 2)

  1. Verification CNAME
  • Alias: [Your unique verification code from DNS Settings panel]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. WWW CNAME
  • Alias: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

A Records (Required: 4)

Add these A Records to connect the root domain (without www):

  • Alias: @
  • Type: A Record
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

Note: If your provider only allows one A Record, use 198.185.159.144.

Important Tips:

  • Allow up to 72 hours for DNS changes to take effect
  • "Record not found" messages are normal immediately after adding records
  • Verify all records are added correctly in your domain provider's settings
  • Each domain provider has a different interface for managing DNS records

Troubleshooting:

If you can't find or add DNS records:

  • Confirm your provider allows full DNS editing access
  • Consult provider-specific connection guides
  • Contact your domain provider for assistance

If DNS Settings panel shows errors after 72 hours:

  • Check the DNS record checker for specific issues
  • Verify all records are configured correctly
  • Consider transferring your domain if it meets requirements

For domains managed by Squarespace, refer to their custom DNS records documentation for specific guidance.
