To connect a third-party subdomain to Squarespace:

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure you have a registered domain with Full DNS services
  • Set up your subdomain with your provider first
  • Note: You don't need to connect the main domain before connecting a subdomain

Step-by-Step Connection Process:

  1. Start in Squarespace
  • Go to Domains panel
  • Click "Use a Domain I Own"
  • Enter subdomain name
  • Click "Connect From Provider"
  • Select "Other" from dropdown
  • Click "Connect Domain"
  • Keep DNS Settings panel open for reference
  1. Access DNS Settings
  • Log into your domain provider account
  • Find DNS management section (may be called Zone File Settings, Manage Domains, or DNS Manager)
  1. Add First CNAME Record
  • Host: Copy unique verification code from Squarespace
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. Add Second CNAME Record
  • Host: Your subdomain (e.g., "blog")
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com
  1. Complete Setup
  • Return to Squarespace DNS Settings
  • Click "Refresh records"
  • Wait up to 72 hours for changes to process
  • If using as primary domain, disable "Use WWW Prefix" in Domains panel

Troubleshooting Tips:

If CNAME Records Aren't Supported:

  • Use TXT records instead
  • Follow same format for both records
  • Delete any conflicting A records

If Verification Fails:

  • Use DNS checker tool in Domains panel
  • Remove any conflicting A records
  • Wait up to 72 hours for changes to take effect
  • Contact domain provider if issues persist

The connection is complete when the subdomain successfully directs to your Squarespace site.
