
How to Connect Your Squarespace Domain to Google Sites
A domain purchased from Squarespace can be connected to your Google Sites site using DNS settings. Here's how to set it up properly:
Prerequisites
- Verify your Squarespace domain with Google Search Console
- Keep the domain registered with Squarespace
- Have access to both Squarespace and Google Sites accounts
Step 1: Configure Google Sites
For Regular Google Sites:
- Log into Google Sites and select your website
- Open Settings and click "Custom domains"
- Click "Start setup"
- Enter your domain and click "Next"
- Keep the connection window open for reference
For Google Workspace Users:
- Log into Google Workspace admin console
- Follow Google's domain connection documentation
Step 2: Configure Squarespace DNS
Add CNAME Record:
- Log into Squarespace
- Open domains dashboard and select your domain
- Click DNS settings
- Remove Squarespace Defaults
- Under Custom Records, add:
- Type: CNAME
- Host: www
- Data: ghs.googlehosted.com
- Priority: Leave default
Add Domain Forwarding:
- Go to Website settings
- Under Domain Forwarding Rules, click "Add rule"
- Enter "@" in Subdomain field
- Add "www" version of your domain
- Configure:
- Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
- Keep SSL On
- Set path forwarding preference
- Save changes
Step 3: Complete Connection
- Return to Google Sites
- Click "Done" in the connection window
- Wait 24-48 hours for propagation
- Verify connection in Google Sites dashboard
Troubleshooting:
- For DNS settings issues: Contact Squarespace support
- For Google Sites access problems: Contact Google support
- Allow up to 48 hours for changes to take effect
Note: Changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate across the internet. During this time, your domain connection may appear inconsistent.
