A domain purchased from Squarespace can be connected to your Google Sites site using DNS settings. Here's how to set it up properly:

Prerequisites

• Verify your Squarespace domain with Google Search Console
• Keep the domain registered with Squarespace
• Have access to both Squarespace and Google Sites accounts

Step 1: Configure Google Sites

For Regular Google Sites:

1. Log into Google Sites and select your website
2. Open Settings and click "Custom domains"
3. Click "Start setup"
4. Enter your domain and click "Next"
5. Keep the connection window open for reference

For Google Workspace Users:

1. Log into Google Workspace admin console
2. Follow Google's domain connection documentation

Step 2: Configure Squarespace DNS

Add CNAME Record:

1. Log into Squarespace
2. Open domains dashboard and select your domain
3. Click DNS settings
4. Remove Squarespace Defaults
5. Under Custom Records, add:
   • Type: CNAME
   • Host: www
   • Data: ghs.googlehosted.com
   • Priority: Leave default

Add Domain Forwarding:

1. Go to Website settings
2. Under Domain Forwarding Rules, click "Add rule"
3. Enter "@" in Subdomain field
4. Add "www" version of your domain
5. Configure:
   • Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
   • Keep SSL On
   • Set path forwarding preference
6. Save changes

Step 3: Complete Connection

1. Return to Google Sites
2. Click "Done" in the connection window
3. Wait 24-48 hours for propagation
4. Verify connection in Google Sites dashboard

Troubleshooting:

• For DNS settings issues: Contact Squarespace support
• For Google Sites access problems: Contact Google support
• Allow up to 48 hours for changes to take effect

Note: Changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate across the internet. During this time, your domain connection may appear inconsistent.
