How to Create a Podcast Blog: Step-by-Step Guide
Creating a blog to host your podcast requires just a few simple steps to reach listeners through podcast services like Apple Podcasts.
Before Starting:
- Only blog posts with audio blocks will sync with Apple Podcasts
- The first post must contain an audio block
- RSS feeds display up to 300 most recent episodes
Step-by-Step Setup:
- Create a Blog Page
- Add a new blog page or use an existing one
- Choose a permanent URL slug to avoid distribution issues
- Each blog post with an audio block becomes a podcast episode
- Configure Podcast Settings
- Open Pages panel
- Click settings next to your blog page title
- Select Feeds tab
- Click Podcast
- Add Required Podcast Details
- Title
- Author
- Description
- Cover Art
- Language (optional)
- Copyright (optional)
- Contact Details (optional)
- Upload Cover Art Requirements:
- Square .jpg or .png file (max 512 KB)
- Size: 1,400px × 1,400px to 3,000px × 3,000px
- RGB color format
- 72 DPI
- Publish First Episode
- Add a blog post with an audio block
- Only the first audio block per post appears on Apple Podcasts
- Get RSS Feed URL Format: https://[yoursite].squarespace.com/[yourblog]?format=rss
- Use integrated .squarespace.com URL for stability
- Custom domains work but aren't recommended
- Submit to Apple Podcasts
- Create/login to Apple ID on Podcasts Connect
- Validate your podcast
- Submit for approval
- Wait for confirmation email
Important Notes:
- Apple Podcasts updates feeds every ~24 hours
- For multiple podcasts, create separate blog pages
- Each blog represents one podcast in subscription services
- Email address required for some services (Spotify, Stitcher)
- Keep URL slugs consistent to avoid feed issues
