How to Duplicate a Squarespace Site: Complete Guide and Limitations
Site duplication in Squarespace allows you to create an exact copy of your existing site's content and design. The process is straightforward but has some limitations and specific considerations.
Limitations:
- Cannot duplicate sites with over 100 pages
- Not available for Developer Platform sites
- Doesn't work with parked pages
- Not available for suspended Cover Page plans
- Excludes Acuity Scheduling pages
To duplicate a site:
- Open your account Dashboard
- Click the ... menu next to the site you want to copy
- Select "Duplicate Website"
The new copy will:
- Appear first in your Dashboard
- Include "(Copy)" in the title
- Start with a free trial period
What transfers to the new site:
- Pages, sections, layouts, and blocks
- Code injection settings
- Collection items
- Site title and logo
- Language and regional settings
- Style settings
- Template
- Text content
- Base authors (Permissions panel only)
What doesn't transfer:
- Domain subscriptions
- Email campaigns
- Audio files
- Blog comments
- Deleted content
- Uploaded files via link editor
- Stock images
- Unused Resource Library items
- Saved sections
- Sales data
- Third-party integrations
- Analytics
- Billing information
- Collaborator permissions
For Membership Sites:
- Membership features will be inactive
- Pages move to Unlinked section
- Requires new subscription to reactivate
- Manual page reorganization needed
Important notes:
- Duplicating doesn't affect the original site
- Changes between sites don't sync
- Collection item URLs get additional characters
- Base authors need manual reassignment to collection items
- URL slugs may need manual updates
The duplicated site requires a paid subscription to continue after the trial period ends.
