Video Auto Play Settings Guide

Auto play allows videos to start playing automatically when visitors open your webpage. Here's everything you need to know about implementing auto play effectively.

Basic Auto Play Rules:

• Only uploaded videos can have customized playback settings
• Video banners and GIFs auto play by default
• Add only one auto-playing video per page to prevent simultaneous playback
• Mobile devices support video banner auto play only

Browser Restrictions:

• Safari and Firefox restrict videos with sound but allow user customization
• Chrome limits auto play for videos with sound (see Chrome's auto play policy)
• Users can modify browser settings to enable auto play

Auto Play Embed Codes by Platform:

• YouTube: Add ?autoplay=1 to URL end (use &autoplay=1 if URL contains ?)
• Vimeo: Add ?autoplay=1 to URL end
• Animoto: Enable Autostart in Embedded video tab before copying code

Background Video Behavior:

• Auto plays by default
• Always plays in loop
• Runs without sound
• Functions differently from standard videos

Index Gallery Support:

• Available in Momentum and Pacific template families
• Grid index pages support auto play in gallery pages only
• Thumbnail grids don't support video content

Important Notes:

• Third-party videos require host-specific settings and custom embed codes
• Multiple auto-playing videos will play simultaneously (except Vimeo)
• Check browser documentation for specific auto play restrictions
• Background videos follow different playback rules
