Is My Squarespace Site Active? A Guide to Site Visibility Status
A Squarespace site's privacy settings determine who can access your content. By default, all sites start as private and are only visible to site owners and collaborators.
Visibility During Trial Period
- Sites are private by default
- Only accessible to owners and collaborators
- Not indexed by search engines
- Visitors need a direct link to access
- Optional password protection available
After Upgrading to Paid Plan
- Site visibility depends on your settings
- Check status: Settings → Site Availability
- "Public" setting means site is active
- Can maintain privacy with password protection
Online Store Functionality
- Requires connected payment processor
- Without payment setup, customers see "Payment is disabled" message
- Store becomes fully functional after payment integration
Content Update Visibility Changes requiring save to be public:
- Layout page modifications
- Posts, events, and product updates
- Page descriptions and settings
- Style and design changes
- Content block area edits
Changes visible after page refresh:
- Gallery section images
- Gallery page content
- Album page tracks
- Navigation menu updates
Privacy Management
- Can maintain private status after upgrading
- Use password protection for limited access
- Control search engine indexing through Google Search Console
- Hide specific pages from search results
Important Note: If search engines indexed your site prematurely, you can request content removal through Google Search Console, though Squarespace doesn't directly support this process.
