Understand and monitor your site's performance using three key traffic metrics:

Unique Visitors

  • Estimates total individual visitors to your site
  • Tracked via 2-year browser cookie
  • Best indicator of loyal audience size
  • Note: Resets when visitors clear cookies or use different browsers

Visits

  • Represents single browsing sessions (can include multiple pageviews)
  • Tracked by 30-minute browser cookie
  • Sessions end at midnight
  • Multiple visits possible from same user after 30-minute gap
  • Useful for measuring site engagement

Pageviews

  • Counts total page requests
  • Includes all full page loads, collection items, and password-protected pages
  • Excludes image URLs, scripts, and 404 pages
  • For index pages (v7.0):
    • Sub-pages viewed from main index count toward index page
    • Direct sub-page URLs count as individual views

Using the Analytics Dashboard

  • Select date ranges from January 2014 onward
  • Filter by KPI (Unique visitors, Visits, or Pageviews)
  • View percentage changes between periods
  • Monitor traffic alerts
  • Analyze trends via interactive line graph

  • Device type distribution (mobile, computer, tablet)
  • Traffic sources
  • Browser usage
  • Operating system breakdown

Important Note: Chrome's "Do Not Track" setting may affect analytics accuracy by registering each page view as a new visitor when enabled.
