Index pages in Squarespace 7.0 organize content from multiple pages into unified layouts, offering three distinct designs: Grid, Stacked, and Slideshow.

Grid Design

  • Creates a visual navigation grid with clickable images
  • Each image links to a separate page
  • Ideal for portfolio-style navigation

Stacked Design

  • Presents content in vertically stacked sections
  • Allows continuous scrolling through all content
  • Similar to an accordion-style brochure

Slideshow Design

  • Displays full-width background images
  • Features overlay content with page titles
  • Perfect for showcasing portfolios or concepts

Adding an Index Page:

  1. Open Pages panel
  2. Click the + icon
  3. Select Index
  4. Enter page title
  5. Click Submit

Managing Content:

  • Add pages under the Index in the Pages panel
  • Drag existing pages into the Index
  • Reorder pages by dragging them in the Pages panel
  • Edit content by clicking Edit on individual pages

Featured Images:

  • Add images to all pages/sections
  • Images become navigation elements, banners, or backgrounds
  • Some templates support featured videos (except Grid Index)

Password Protection:

  • Protect main Index Page via page settings
  • Stacked Index: Main password protects all subpages
  • Grid/Slideshow Index: Add passwords to individual subpages

Style Customization:

  • Options vary by template family
  • Modify layouts, fonts, navigation elements
  • Adjust image sizes, padding, and title display

Special Considerations:

  • URLs may include hashtags in certain templates
  • SEO handling differs from standard pages
  • Social sharing behavior varies by index type

Alternative Solutions: If your template doesn't support Index Pages, consider:

  • Creating image grids on Layout Pages
  • Adding content sections to Layout Pages
  • Using Cover Pages with multiple images

This feature is available in select template families including Bedford, Brine, Montauk, Pacific, Tremont, and York.
