How to Add and Manage DNS Records for Your Domain

To add DNS records to your domain:

DNS records (resource records) contain essential information about your domain, enabling users to connect to your website or email address, enhance security, and authenticate domain ownership.

You can modify DNS records in Squarespace if you:

  • Own a Squarespace-managed domain
  • Have connected a third-party domain via Nameserver Connect

Note: For domains connected via DNS Connect, modify DNS settings through your third-party domain provider.

Common reasons to modify DNS records:

  • Redirecting your domain
  • Setting up third-party email services
  • Fixing domain connection issues

Accessing DNS Settings:

  1. Open Domains dashboard
  2. Click domain name
  3. Select DNS Settings

Available DNS Record Types:

  • A
  • AAAA
  • ALIAS
  • CNAME
  • DKIM and SPF
  • DMARC
  • MX
  • SRV
  • CAA
  • DS and DNSKEY
  • HTTPS
  • PTR
  • SSHFP
  • TLSA
  • NS Records
  • TXT Settings

Customizing TTL (Time To Live):

  • Default: 4 hours
  • Can be modified using predefined values or custom settings
  • Custom values must be in seconds (maximum: 2147483648 seconds)

To Delete DNS Records:

  1. Open Domains dashboard
  2. Click domain name
  3. Navigate to DNS > DNS Settings
  4. Scroll to Custom Records
  5. Hover over record and click trash can icon
  6. Click Save

Important: DNS changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate fully across the internet.

Note: For specific DNS record configuration or troubleshooting assistance, consult your service provider's documentation or support resources.
