How to Add and Manage DNS Records for Your Domain
DNS records help connect users to your website by storing domain information. You can add custom records for third-party services like Google Site Verification or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
You can manage DNS records in Squarespace if you:
- Have a Squarespace-managed domain
- Connected a third-party domain via nameserver connection
To access DNS settings:
- Open Domain Dashboard
- Click domain name
- Select DNS Settings
Common DNS record types:
- A and AAAA: Map domain to IP addresses
- ALIAS: Points domain to another domain
- CNAME: Creates domain name aliases
- DKIM/SPF: Email authentication
- MX: Email routing
- TXT: Store text information
- CAA: Control SSL certificate authorities
- NS: Specify nameservers
Managing TTL (Time To Live):
- Default: 4 hours
- Custom values in seconds (max 2147483648)
- Controls record cache duration
To delete a DNS record:
- Navigate to DNS Settings
- Find Custom Records section
- Hover over record
- Click trash can icon
- Save changes
Important notes:
- Changes take 24-72 hours to propagate
- Only edit DNS records for specific needs like:
- Domain forwarding
- Third-party email setup
- Domain connection fixes
- Third-party domains using DNS connection must be edited through the domain provider
