DNS records contain essential information that connects users to your website and email addresses. They help verify domain ownership and enhance website security. Here's how to manage DNS records:

Prerequisites for DNS Record Management:

  • Must have a Squarespace-managed domain OR
  • Domain connected via Nameserver Connect
  • For domains using DNS Connect, modify DNS settings through your third-party provider

Adding DNS Records:

  1. Access DNS Settings:
  • Open domain names control panel
  • Select your domain name
  • Click DNS Settings
  1. Available DNS Record Types:
  • A and AAAA (Address records)
  • ALIAS and CNAME (Domain aliases)
  • DKIM and SPF (Email authentication)
  • DMARC (Email security)
  • MX (Mail exchange)
  • SRV (Service records)
  • CAA (Certificate authority)
  • DS and DNSKEY (DNSSEC)
  • HTTPS, PTR, SSHFP, TLSA
  • NS (Nameserver records)
  • TXT (Text records)
  1. Customizing TTL (Time To Live):
  • Default: 4 hours
  • Custom values: Enter in seconds
  • Maximum value: 2147483648 seconds

Deleting DNS Records:

  1. Navigate to DNS Settings
  2. Scroll to Custom Records
  3. Hover over record
  4. Click red trash can icon
  5. Click Save
  6. Allow 24-72 hours for changes to propagate

Common Uses for DNS Records:

  • Domain redirections
  • Third-party email setup
  • Domain connection fixes
  • Service verification (Google, Salesforce)

Remember: DNS changes may take up to 72 hours to fully propagate across the internet. Always verify settings before deleting any records.
