How to Add Disqus Comments to Your Squarespace Website
Disqus is a third-party commenting platform that enhances your Squarespace blog's commenting functionality with features like conversation threads and image comments. Here's how to set it up properly.
Important: Disqus comments are URL-specific, meaning comments only appear under the exact URL used during setup. To ensure consistency, use your secure (https) custom domain as the trusted domain in Disqus.
Creating Your Disqus Shortname:
- Log in to Disqus
- Click "Add Disqus to Website"
- Select "I want to install Disqus on my website"
- Enter your website name (this becomes your shortname)
- Choose a category
- Select a subscription plan
- Choose Squarespace as your platform
- Copy your Disqus shortname
Setting Up Disqus on Squarespace:
- Open your website's blog settings
- Paste your Disqus shortname in the designated field
- Save changes
- Enable Comments globally under Comment Settings
- Ensure comments are enabled for individual posts
Using Disqus Comments:
- Visitors must log in via Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, or Google
- Comments appear only under the URL specified during setup
- Previous Squarespace comments won't transfer to Disqus
Troubleshooting:
If Disqus isn't loading, verify:
- You created a Website account (not a User account)
- Your shortname is correctly added to blog settings
- Your URL matches the one in your Disqus account
- Ajax loading is disabled in your template
Remember: Contact Disqus support for platform-specific issues, as Squarespace can only assist with integration setup.
