Domains registered with Squarespace can direct visitors in several ways, depending on your needs. Here's how to choose the right option:

Transfer vs. Connect

Transfer Your Domain When:

  • You want unified billing for domain and website
  • Team members need access to both domain and website
  • You want to claim free domain or Google Workspace offers

Connect Your Domain When:

  • You prefer separate billing for domain and website
  • Domain management should be independent of website access
  • You have a parked Squarespace domain

Forward vs. Specify

Forward Your Domain When:

  • Visitors should see the new site's URL
  • You need to direct to any website
  • Simple redirection is sufficient

Specify Your Domain When:

  • Original URL should remain visible
  • Directing to non-Squarespace sites
  • CNAME or A record configuration is needed

Subdomain Configuration

To connect a subdomain to another Squarespace site:

  1. Configure DNS records on both sites
  2. Note: Cannot specify domains/subdomains to different pages within same site

Additional Options:

  • Change primary domain while maintaining presence
  • Transfer domain to new provider
  • Create URL redirects for inactive pages
  • Set new homepage
  • Configure path forwarding
  • Set up domain forwarding presets
  • Maintain old domain during rebranding

For third-party domains, follow your provider's documentation for forwarding or specification settings.

Remember: All domain changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate across the internet.
