To disconnect a third-party domain from your Squarespace site, follow these key steps:

Before Disconnecting

  • Set a new primary domain if disconnecting your current primary domain
  • Note that disconnecting won't cancel linked Google Workspace accounts
  • For GoDaddy domains connected automatically, manual disconnection will be required afterward

Step 1: Disconnect Domain

  1. Log into your Squarespace account
  2. Navigate to the Domains panel
  3. Select the third-party domain
  4. Scroll down and click "Disconnect Domain"
  5. Confirm by clicking "Disconnect" in the pop-up window

Step 2: Update DNS Records

  1. Log into your domain provider account
  2. Remove all Squarespace DNS records
  3. Contact your domain provider for specific DNS modification steps

Important Notes:

  • DNS updates may take time to propagate
  • During this period, visitors may see error messages
  • Expired site deletion automatically disconnects all linked third-party domains
  • Domain provider-specific steps may vary
  • Disconnection doesn't affect domain ownership or registration

For GoDaddy Users: Contact GoDaddy support for additional assistance with manual disconnection after completing the above steps.

Remember to check the Domains tab in your account dashboard if unsure about domain connections. For complete domain transfers out of Squarespace, follow the separate domain transfer process.
