Adding Disqus comments requires creating an account and configuring your Squarespace site. Here's how to set it up properly:

Create Your Disqus Account:

  1. Log in to Disqus and click "Add Disqus to Site"
  2. Click "Get Started"
  3. Select "I want to install Disqus on my site"
  4. Choose a website name (this becomes your shortname)
  5. Select a category and click "Create Site"
  6. Choose a plan or start a trial
  7. Select "Squarespace" as your platform
  8. Copy your Disqus shortname

Configure Squarespace Settings:

  1. Open Blog Settings in Squarespace
  2. Paste your Disqus shortname
  3. Go to Comment Settings
  4. Enable global comments
  5. Save changes

Important Considerations:

  • Comments only appear on the URL specified in your Disqus account
  • Use HTTPS version of your main domain as the trusted domain
  • Visitors must log in via Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, or Google to comment
  • Previous Squarespace comments won't transfer to Disqus
  • Comments may not display on templates with Ajax loading

Troubleshooting:

If comments aren't appearing, verify:

  • You created a Disqus Website account (not User account)
  • Your shortname is correctly entered in Squarespace
  • Comments are enabled on individual posts
  • You're viewing the site using the same URL registered with Disqus

For appearance customization options, refer to Disqus documentation. Contact Disqus support directly for platform-specific issues.
