How to Install and Configure Disqus Comments on Squarespace Sites
Adding Disqus comments requires creating an account and configuring your Squarespace site. Here's how to set it up properly:
Create Your Disqus Account:
- Log in to Disqus and click "Add Disqus to Site"
- Click "Get Started"
- Select "I want to install Disqus on my site"
- Choose a website name (this becomes your shortname)
- Select a category and click "Create Site"
- Choose a plan or start a trial
- Select "Squarespace" as your platform
- Copy your Disqus shortname
Configure Squarespace Settings:
- Open Blog Settings in Squarespace
- Paste your Disqus shortname
- Go to Comment Settings
- Enable global comments
- Save changes
Important Considerations:
- Comments only appear on the URL specified in your Disqus account
- Use HTTPS version of your main domain as the trusted domain
- Visitors must log in via Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, or Google to comment
- Previous Squarespace comments won't transfer to Disqus
- Comments may not display on templates with Ajax loading
Troubleshooting:
If comments aren't appearing, verify:
- You created a Disqus Website account (not User account)
- Your shortname is correctly entered in Squarespace
- Comments are enabled on individual posts
- You're viewing the site using the same URL registered with Disqus
For appearance customization options, refer to Disqus documentation. Contact Disqus support directly for platform-specific issues.
