Transferring a third-party domain between Squarespace sites requires disconnecting it from one site and reconnecting it to another. Here's how to do it properly.

Prerequisites:

  • Domain must be active (not expired)
  • Destination site must be a full site (not a parking page)
  • Site must have active subscription

Step 1: Disconnect Domain

  1. Go to the Domains panel
  2. Click on your domain
  3. Scroll down and click "Disconnect Domain"
  4. Confirm disconnection

Step 2: Connect to New Site

  1. Log in to your destination site
  2. Open Domains panel
  3. Click "Use a Domain You Own"
  4. Enter domain name and click Continue
  5. Select "Connect with Provider"
  6. Choose your domain provider from the dropdown

For Automatic Connection (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Network Solutions):

  • Log in to provider account when prompted
  • Click Connect and Accept

For Manual Connection:

  1. Open Domains panel and click your domain
  2. Click DNS
  3. Copy the unique code under Hosting column
  4. Log in to domain provider
  5. Locate DNS settings
  6. Find CNAME record with verify.squarespace.com
  7. Replace Alias field with new code
  8. Save changes

Domain connection typically completes within 24 hours, but may take up to 72 hours.
