How to Manually Configure DNS Records for GoDaddy Domain on Squarespace
Set up your GoDaddy domain with Squarespace manually using DNS records when automatic nameserver connection fails. Here's how:
Before Starting:
- Use GoDaddy's default nameservers
- Remove any DS records
- Delete existing DNS templates
- Ensure domain name doesn't contain "squarespace" or "sqsp"
Step 1: Reconnect Domain in Squarespace
- Go to Domains panel
- Disconnect existing domain
- Click "I already have a domain"
- Enter domain name
- Select "No, use DNS records"
- Choose "Other" as provider
- Click Connect Domain
Step 2: Access GoDaddy DNS Settings
- Log into GoDaddy
- Go to domain portfolio
- Select domain
- Click "Manage DNS" under Additional Settings
Step 3: Add First CNAME Record
- Type: CNAME
- Name: [unique verification code from Squarespace]
- Data: verify.squarespace.com
Step 4: Add Second CNAME Record
- Type: CNAME
- Name: www
- Data: ext-cust.squarespace.com
Step 5: Add Four A Records Create records with:
- Type: A
- Name: @
- Data (add one record for each):
- 198.185.159.144
- 198.185.159.145
- 198.49.23.144
- 198.49.23.145
Important Notes:
- Keep mail/email records
- Remove any conflicting @ or blank records
- Maintain default TTL settings
Wait 24-72 hours for changes to take effect. Monitor connection status in Squarespace's DNS Settings panel by clicking "Refresh Records." Green labels indicate successful connection.
Troubleshooting:
- Use DNS Records Checker if verification fails
- Reset GoDaddy nameservers if connection issues persist
- Contact GoDaddy support for additional help
Green labels in your Squarespace DNS Settings panel and "Connected" status indicate successful setup.
