Setting a custom domain as your main website address helps build brand recognition and provides a consistent experience for visitors. Here's how to set and manage your primary domain:

Setting Your Primary Domain

  1. Open the domains menu
  2. Click the "..." next to your chosen domain
  3. Select "Set as Main Domain"
  4. Confirm by clicking "Set"

The selected domain will display "Primary" label in your domains menu.

Important Requirements:

  • Custom domains must be properly connected (may take up to 72 hours)
  • Domain ownership must be verified
  • Only one domain can be primary at a time
  • All website pages will use the primary domain

Key Things to Know:

  • First added domain automatically becomes primary
  • Secondary domains redirect to primary domain via 301 redirect
  • Built-in domains can't be set as primary
  • Subdomains can be set as primary if properly connected
  • Search engines will only display your primary domain

Traffic and Analytics:

  • Analytics combine traffic from all active domains
  • Individual domain traffic isn't tracked separately
  • Use Google Search Console to manage search result appearances

For Security:

  • Built-in domain remains visible when logged in
  • This is a security feature and cannot be changed
  • Visitors will only see your primary domain

If your domain isn't appearing correctly in search results, submit your preferred domain through Google Search Console for proper indexing.
