Nameserver registration, also known as glue records, allows you to host your domain on your own servers by linking your nameserver's IP address to your TLD record. This is particularly useful when hosting your server on platforms like Cloudflare instead of your domain provider's nameservers.

Prerequisites:

  • Own server infrastructure
  • Server management experience
  • Desire to host domain on a non-provider managed server

Adding Glue Records:

  1. Gather your server's hostname and IP address from your server provider
  2. Access your domain panel
  3. Navigate to DNS > Nameserver Record
  4. Click "Add Host Record"
  5. Enter hostname and IP address in respective fields
  6. Click "Add IP Address"
  7. Save changes
  8. Wait 24-72 hours for updates to take effect

Important: After adding glue records, configure custom nameservers for your domain.

Removing Glue Records:

  1. Ensure nameservers point to alternative destination first
  2. Access domain panel
  3. Navigate to DNS > Domain Nameservers
  4. Select "Nameserver Registration"
  5. Click trash icon next to host record
  6. Save changes
  7. Allow 24-72 hours for changes to propagate

Warning: Removing glue records while in use can cause 72-hour website downtime. Always redirect nameservers before deletion.

Note: All changes to nameserver settings typically require 24-72 hours to fully propagate across the internet.
