How to Set Up Domain URL Redirects in Squarespace: Complete Guide
URL redirection sends visitors from one URL to another. In Squarespace, you can redirect domains, subdomains, or specific pages to any destination. Here's how to set it up properly:
Before Starting
- URL redirections can take up to 72 hours to update
- You need an active, registered domain
- Built-in Squarespace domains cannot be redirected
Setting Up Domain Redirection
- Access Domain Settings:
- Open domain panel
- Click the domain name
- Select Website
- Scroll to URL Redirection Rules
- Click Add Rule
- Configure Redirect:
- In "Redirect from": Enter @ (for primary domain) or subdomain name
- In "Redirect to": Enter complete destination URL
- Choose redirect type (301 permanent or 302 temporary)
- Enable SSL (recommended)
- Select route redirection option (keep or remove paths)
- Click Save
Redirecting Subdomains
Follow the same steps above, but:
- Enter subdomain name in "Redirect from" field
- Use complete URL with specific page slug in "Redirect to" field

For domains using custom nameservers:
- Add required CNAME and A records
- Remove existing conflicting records
- Allow up to 72 hours for changes to propagate
To remove redirects:
- Open domain panel
- Click domain name
- Select Website
- Find URL Redirection section
- Click trash icon next to redirect rule
