Email subscriber verification helps reduce spam flags and ensures your campaigns reach genuine subscribers. Here's everything you need to know about verification options in Squarespace:

Verification Methods

  1. Google reCAPTCHA
  • Invisible security feature preventing bot submissions
  • Automatically enabled for form blocks
  • Available for newsletter blocks and promotional pop-ups
  • No action required from visitors
  1. Confirmation Emails
  • Requires subscribers to verify their subscription
  • Sent for form blocks, newsletter blocks, and promotional pop-ups
  • Also used for Acuity Scheduling opt-ins and member website registrations
  • Not available on trial websites

Setting Up Verification

At least one verification method must be enabled for:

  • Newsletter blocks
  • Promotional pop-ups
  • Form blocks with email signup

Verification is not available for:

  • Checkout newsletter sign-ups
  • Manually added addresses
  • Imported addresses

Customizing Confirmation Emails

To customize:

  1. Go to Email Marketing Settings > Verification Options
  2. Click "Customize Email"
  3. Edit text, layout, and design
  4. Modify subject line and preview text
  5. Test the email before saving

Limitations:

  • Cannot add blog or product sections
  • Cannot remove Confirm Subscription button
  • Cannot customize confirmation page
  • Sender information uses verified custom domain

Troubleshooting

If subscribers don't receive confirmation emails:

  1. Check spam folders
  2. Add [email protected] to contacts
  3. Verify email address accuracy
  4. Try an alternative email address

For 404 errors:

  1. Reset form storage connection
  2. Ensure domain correctly points to Squarespace website
  3. Verify mailing list connections

Keep verification settings compliant with local regulations, especially in the EU.
