How to Use Your Custom Domain Email with Squarespace: Complete Guide
A custom domain email address (like [email protected]) can be used with Squarespace in two ways: keeping your current email provider or migrating to Google Workspace.
Keeping Your Current Email Provider:
- Continue using your existing email service without disruption
- Only CNAME and A records are modified when connecting to Squarespace
- Email hosting and MX records remain unchanged
- For Squarespace domains, add necessary DNS records for third-party email services
Migrating to Google Workspace:
- Maintain your existing email address while creating a new account
- Manage billing through Squarespace
- Access emails, calendars, and documents through Google's interface
- Works with both third-party and Squarespace domains
Migration Process:
- Create Google Workspace Account
- Set up account through Squarespace
- Use your existing custom domain
- Add all necessary email addresses and aliases
- Allow up to 72 hours for MX record changes to propagate
- Import Content
- Export emails, contacts, and data from current provider
- Use Google's data migration service
- Transfer complete email history
- Cancel Previous Service Before canceling, ensure:
- Google Workspace setup is complete
- Emails are being received correctly
- All content is transferred
- MX records are properly configured
Important Notes:
- Don't cancel current service until Google Workspace setup is complete
- Admin access required for both Squarespace and current email
- Domain must be active on Squarespace
- Complete any domain transfers before migration
- Temporary email delivery to both services is normal during transition
