Meta Updates US Shop Policy: Mandatory In-Platform Payments for Facebook and Instagram Merchants
Products on Facebook and Instagram can be synced directly from your Squarespace site, allowing you to sell and advertise through posts, stories, and shop sections. The integration automatically updates product information hourly.
Meta Policy Update (April 2024)
- U.S. merchants must now enable payments on Facebook and Instagram
- Direct product tags to Squarespace checkout are no longer allowed
- Policy changes for other regions will be announced in Meta Business Help Center
Integration Limitations:
- One-way sync from Squarespace to Meta Business Manager
- Sales on Meta platforms won't sync with Squarespace
- Shipping and tax rules don't transfer
- Inventory isn't affected by Meta sales
- Orders won't appear in Squarespace analytics
Prerequisites:
- Physical products with images (min. 500×500px), titles, and descriptions
- Site title
- Meta-compliant products
- Disabled site password
- Instagram Business account (if selling on Instagram)
Required Accounts:
- Business Manager account
- Facebook Page
- Meta pixel
- Ads account
Sync Process:
- Open Products panel
- Click Connect with Facebook
- Log in to Facebook
- Select desired features:
- Facebook Ads
- Facebook Shops
- Instagram Shopping
- Follow prompts to complete setup
Synced Product Information:
- ID
- Title
- Description
- Main image
- Lowest price
- Availability status
Shop Management:
- Shops appear after Meta verification (24-48 hours)
- Set payment method to "Payment on Facebook and Instagram"
- Create ad campaigns through Meta Ads Manager
- Tag products in Instagram posts and stories
- Monitor performance through Traffic Sources
To Unlink Products:
- Open Products and Services panel
- Click Facebook and Instagram
- Select Unlink twice
