SEO Guide: Optimizing Index Pages for Search Visibility and Social Sharing
Search engines and social media platforms interact differently with Index Pages since they are collections of other pages. Here's how to optimize them effectively:
SEO Optimization for Main Index Pages:
- Include relevant keywords throughout the Index page
- Optimize headers for search visibility
- Add SEO descriptions and alternative social sharing images in Index Page settings
- Set index as homepage to improve search engine prioritization
Secondary Pages Optimization:
- Both index and direct links to secondary pages can appear in search results
- Add noindex tags to hide specific secondary pages from search engines
- Consider hiding secondary pages to prevent:
- Stacked index issues (visitors landing on secondary pages instead of main index)
- Special formatting problems (hashtag URLs don't preserve formatting in search results)

Social Media Sharing Options:
-
Share complete Index Page:
- Use main site URL without slug if Index is homepage
- Include Index Page slug (without additional page slugs) if not homepage
-
Share specific sections:
- Grid/Slideshow: Use incognito mode URL
- Stacked: Set and use anchor links
-
Share standalone pages (Direct URLs):
- Use format: domain.com/page-slug
- Remove hashtags (#) from URLs
- Remove Index Page slug if Index isn't homepage
Example URL format: Original: https://www.site.com/index/#/pageone Sharing version: https://www.site.com/pageone
Important: Always use logged-out or incognito mode URLs for sharing, as logged-in URLs containing '/config' won't work.
