Add Disqus Comments to Squarespace: Integration Guide
Setting up Disqus comments on your site requires two main steps: creating a Disqus shortname and implementing it on your Squarespace site.
Create Your Disqus Shortname
- Log in to Disqus and click "Add Disqus to site"
- Click "Get Started"
- Select "I want to install Disqus on my site"
- Enter your site name (this becomes your shortname)
- Select a category and click "Create site"
- Choose a plan or start a trial
- Select "Squarespace" as your platform
- Copy your Disqus shortname
Implement Disqus on Squarespace
- Open your site's blog preferences panel
- Paste your Disqus shortname in the designated field
- Save your changes
- Enable comments in Comment Settings
- Verify comments are enabled on individual posts
Important Considerations
- Comments are URL-specific
- Use HTTPS version of your main domain as trusted domain
- Visitors need a Disqus, Facebook, Twitter, or Google account to comment
- Existing Squarespace comments won't transfer to Disqus
Troubleshooting
If comments don't appear, verify:
- You created a Disqus Website account (not User account)
- Your shortname is correctly added to blog preferences
- Comments are enabled on individual posts
- You're viewing the site on the same URL registered with Disqus
Note: Ajax-enabled templates may affect Disqus comment display. For further customization options, consult Disqus documentation.
