Find and Manage Static Image URLs on Squarespace CDN
When you upload files to Squarespace, they're stored on content delivery networks (CDNs) with unique static URLs. Here's how they're handled and how to manage them:
Image Storage
- Images are stored in multiple sizes for optimal loading
- Each size has a unique static URL
- This improves site performance and SEO
- URLs start with images.squarespace-cdn.com or static.squarespace.com
Video Storage
- Videos convert automatically to mp4 format
- Available in 1080p and 360p resolutions
- Optimized for all devices and browsers
- Resolution selection isn't manual
Finding Static URLs
- Right-click image and open in new tab
- URL appears in browser address bar
- Use browser tools to view page source if needed
- Look for URLs ending with format specifications (e.g., format=1000w)
Removing Content
- Delete images/videos directly through resource library
- Unused resources auto-delete after 8-38 days
- Deleted page content remains in trash for 30 days
- Files need additional 8 days for permanent deletion after trash emptying
Requesting Quick Deletion
- Email from site owner's address
- Include "Request for Static URL Deletion"
- Provide domain name
- List all static URLs to remove
- Note: Complete removal timing varies and can't be expedited
Important Notes:
- Deleted files may remain temporarily accessible via direct URLs
- Search engines may continue displaying cached URLs
- You can force search engines to re-index your site
- CDNs use global server networks for content distribution
For files requiring immediate removal, contact Squarespace support with your domain name and specific static URLs. Note that even after deletion, search engines may temporarily cache these URLs in their results.
