How to Connect a Namecheap Domain to Your Squarespace Website
Before connecting your Namecheap domain to Squarespace, ensure you have Namecheap's default nameservers active to avoid error messages. You can connect your domain using either Nameserver Connect (recommended) or DNS Connect.
Nameserver Connect Method:
- In Squarespace, open Domains panel and click "Use a domain I own"
- Enter your domain name and click Connect domain
- Select "Get Started" in the Namecheap connection panel
- Log into your Namecheap account
- In Namecheap, open domain dashboard and select "Custom DNS" from Nameservers dropdown
- Add these nameservers:
- connect1.squarespacedns.com
- connect2.squarespacedns.com
- Save changes and click Finish in Squarespace
DNS Connect Method:
- In Squarespace, open Domains panel and click "Use a domain I own"
- Enter domain name and select "No, use DNS records"
- Choose Namecheap from dropdown menu
- Log into Namecheap account
- Click Connect and Continue
Connection Time and Verification:
- Allow 24-72 hours for the connection to complete
- Monitor progress in Squarespace DNS Settings
- Green labels will appear as records connect
- Domain will show "Connected" label when complete
Troubleshooting Tips:
If connection fails after 72 hours:
- Reset nameservers to Namecheap defaults
- Disconnect domain from Squarespace
- Manually reconnect following the steps above
- Use DNS checker tool in DNS Settings panel to verify records
