To rename your Squarespace domain, you must act within 5 days of registration by canceling the existing domain and registering a new one. After this grace period, domain names become permanent.

The 5-day grace period is tracked to the minute. For instance, a domain registered at 8:00 AM on January 1st can be canceled until 7:59 AM on January 6th.

Important Considerations:

  • Primary domains must be replaced before removal
  • Most country code domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de don't offer grace periods or refunds
  • After the grace period, you can still switch to a different primary domain

How to Change Your Domain Name:

  1. Cancel the Current Domain (Within 5 Days):
  • Access Domains dashboard
  • Select the domain to change
  • Click "Delete Domain"
  • You'll receive a refund after cancellation
  1. Register a New Domain:
  • Return to Domains dashboard
  • Complete the registration process for your new domain

Exceptions:

  • ccTLD domains have different cancellation rules
  • Domains purchased through resellers must be canceled through the reseller's account
  • Domains past the 5-day grace period cannot be renamed

Note: Before removing a primary domain, set a different domain as primary first. You can modify this setting later if needed.

For domains beyond the grace period, simply set up a new primary domain to maintain your online presence while transitioning to the new domain name.
