How to Set Up TXT Records for Domain Verification in Squarespace
Domain verification through TXT records provides an alternative method when standard CNAME verification isn't working or available. This method is useful when:
- The domain remains unverified after 72 hours
- Your provider doesn't support CNAME records
- CNAME records can't be modified
- You need to verify a subdomain connection
- Access DNS Settings
- Log into your domain provider account
- Locate DNS settings (may be called zone file settings or DNS manager)
- Create TXT Record
- Go to your Squarespace domain dashboard
- Select the unverified domain and click [DNS]
- Copy the unique verification code below [Host] (format: verify.squarespace.com)
- Add a new TXT record with:
- Alias: @ or leave blank
- Type: TXT or TXT Record
- Points to: Your copied verification code
- Save the record
- Verify Connection
- Return to Squarespace DNS settings
- Click [Refresh]
- Wait for the [Current Data] column to update
- Look for the green [Fixed] label
- Allow up to 72 hours for changes to take effect
Note: DNS propagation typically takes 24-72 hours. During this time, your domain verification status may fluctuate. If verification fails after 72 hours, double-check your TXT record settings or contact your domain provider's support.
