Protect individual pages on your site with passwords, ensuring only authorized visitors can access specific content. Password protection works globally, meaning all visitors use the same password for access.

Key Password Requirements:

• Minimum 30 characters
• Case-sensitive
• Avoid using your Squarespace account password
• Collaborators with viewer permissions need the password

Setting a Page Password:

1. Open Pages panel
2. Select the page to protect
3. Click settings icon
4. Scroll to Password field
5. Enter password
6. Click Save

A lock icon appears next to password-protected pages in the Pages panel.

Visitor Experience:

• Must enter password before accessing page
• Password session expires after 4 hours
• No manual logout option
• Page views only count after password entry

Search Engine Considerations:

• Set passwords before adding content to prevent indexing
• Existing pages may remain in search results temporarily
• Protected collection pages prevent indexing of individual items

Collection Pages Protection:

• Password protects all items within the collection
• Items visible in summary/archive blocks but require password for full access
• Cannot set individual passwords for collection items

Managing Passwords: To edit/remove:

1. Open Pages panel
2. Select protected page
3. Access Page Settings
4. Modify or delete password
5. Save changes

Best Practices:

• Keep passwords secure and separate from account credentials
• Test access using private browsing
• Consider moving protected pages to Unlinked section
• Use plain text when entering passwords

Limitations:

• Cannot create unique passwords per user
• Not available for member site pages
• Cannot password-protect individual collection items

Troubleshooting:

• Disable password managers when changing passwords
