Site Down? Complete Troubleshooting Guide for Website Issues
If your site is not displaying, follow these steps to identify and resolve common issues.
Check Status Page
- Visit status.squarespace.com to check for system-wide issues
- Subscribe to SMS or email updates for real-time notifications
- If all services are operational, proceed with additional troubleshooting
Domain Connection Issues
For Custom Domains:
- Try accessing your site using the default .squarespace.com domain
- If the site loads with the default domain, the issue is domain-related
For External Domains (GoDaddy, 1&1, Hover, etc.):
- Verify DNS settings using domain connection guide
- Check domain provider's status page for outages
- Allow up to 72 hours for recent domain connections
For Squarespace Domains:
- Confirm presence of Default website settings in DNS records
- Verify domain within 15 days to avoid suspension
- Check domain expiration status
Site Expiration
If you see "The website has expired":
- Check payment method status
- Enable automatic renewal
- Reactivate expired site through billing settings
Wrong Site Loading
If incorrect site appears:
- Log into your account
- Access Main Menu
- Click your profile picture/initials
- Locate correct site in grid view
- Search by site title or domain if needed
